Forest of Reading Program at our Library

Here are some thoughts from our Forest of Reading Readers:

There are 3 reading programs sponsored by the Ontario Library Association that are designed to cultivate a love of reading for students of all ages. These programs bring an excellent selection of Canadian literature to the attention of Ontario children.

Timeline: January to April

  • All grade 1, 2 and 3 students will participate through the library program.
  • Students will listen to 10 nominated new Canadian picture books and then vote for their favourite book.

  • For grade 3 and 4 students.
  • This program offers a combination of fiction and non-fiction books.
  • Students read books independently.
  • Students must read 5 out of 10 books to be eligible to vote in late April.

  • For grade 4, 5 and 6 students.
  • Students may choose either the fiction or non-fiction category.
  • Students read independently.
  • Students must read 5 out of 10 books to be eligible to vote in late April.

  • For grade 7 and 8 students.
  • Students read independently.
  • Students must choose fiction or non-fiction category.
